Brow Lift, Eyelid Surgery — Cosmetic Eye Surgery

In addition to rhinoplasty, facelift surgery, and fat injections, our experienced surgeons at Forma Plastic Surgery provide exceptional cosmetic eye surgery procedures including brow lift and eyelid surgery. Our high-quality procedures help patients look and feel younger and more refreshed.

Brow Lift Surgery

Deep creases and folds on the forehead that result from the natural aging process can make people appear much older than they really are. Fortunately, these individuals can undergo brow lift surgery to take years off their appearance. Also known as a forehead lift, brow lift surgery can correct droopy brows, lines on the forehead, and heavy upper eyelids for a dramatically younger and more vibrant appearance.

Before Brow Lift Surgery

Those interested in brow lift surgery must meet with our surgeons for an initial evaluation prior to the procedure. During the evaluation, our surgeons will determine whether or not the patient is a suitable candidate for a brow lift. Ideal candidates are those who are in good health, between 40 and 50 years of age, and who have wrinkles, creases, and sagging skin on their forehead and near their eyebrows.

Also during the initial brow lift consultation, our surgeons will discuss what the procedure entails and evaluate the patient's goals for surgery. Our surgeons will make sure that the patient maintains reasonable expectations for the surgery, and will take the time to answer any questions or concerns the patient may have. Contact us to schedule an evaluation at Forma Plastic Surgery.

Brow Lift Procedure

During brow lift surgery, the surgeon creates an incision from ear to ear above the hairline. Next, the surgeon removes specified sections of muscle and skin near the eyebrows and pulls the skin taut to smooth out any wrinkles on the forehead. The incisions are then sutured shut. The entire process is performed while the patient is under general anesthesia and takes approximately one hour.

For optimal results, brow lift surgery at our Scottsdale or Phoenix locations can be combined with other procedures we offer, such as facelift surgery, fat transfer injections, cosmetic eye surgery, or dermal fillers such as JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel. Contact Forma Plastic Surgery to learn more about these procedures.

Brow Lift Surgery Recovery and Results

After brow lift surgery, patients enjoy a more youthful appearance. Full results become apparent a few weeks after the surgery. Patients should keep their head elevated for a few days after surgery to reduce any bruising and swelling. Our surgeons will prescribe pain medication to help ease any discomfort patients experience after surgery. Patients can schedule a follow-up appointment two weeks after the surgery to have the stitches removed and can normally return to work and resume their normal activities at this time.

Eyelid Surgery

The eyes are one of the most important sources of expression on the face. They can reveal how someone feels — happy, sad, tired, or angry — as well as reveal how old someone is. As we age, reduced skin elasticity and fat deposits can make the skin around our eyes droopy, making us appear older, tired, and even angry. Fortunately, cosmetic eye surgery can help individuals look happier, lively, and more energetic. Our surgeons are experienced in the latest eyelid surgery techniques for the most natural-looking results.

Before Cosmetic Eye Surgery

Individuals who are interested in eyelid surgery in the Scottsdale and Phoenix areas will meet with our surgeons to discuss their candidacy for the procedure. The best candidates for cosmetic eye surgery are those with baggy or droopy eyelids who are at least 18 years old and are in good physical health. Candidates should not suffer from eye conditions such as glaucoma or dry eye, as well as other medical conditions such as hyperthyroidism, diabetes, and high blood pressure. Our surgeons can evaluate a patient's facial structure as well as medical history to determine candidacy for eyelid surgery during the initial consultation.

In addition, our surgeons will explain the entire cosmetic eye surgery procedure in detail and discuss the risks and limitations associated with it. They will also evaluate the patient's goals to determine the best surgical technique and make sure the patient maintains reasonable expectations for the procedure. Our surgeons will also take the time to address any questions or concerns the patient may have. Contact us today to schedule a free consultation for eyelid surgery.

Preparation for Eyelid Surgery

It is important for patients to begin preparing for their cosmetic eye surgery procedure at least four weeks before their scheduled operation. At this time, patients should stop smoking, drinking, and taking aspirin or other blood-thinning medications. The day before surgery, patients should stock up on items they will need during the healing process, such as gauze bandages, eye drops, towels, ice, and other items suggested by our surgeons. Patients should also arrange for someone to accompany them to and from our practice, as patients will not be able to drive after eyelid surgery.

On the day of surgery, patients should thoroughly wash their face and eyebrows to minimize the risk of infection. They should also refrain from wearing any cosmetics or accessories. Following these instructions, as well as any other specific instructions provided by our surgeons, will help ensure a rapid recovery.

Eyelid Surgery Procedure

During the eyelid surgery procedure, the surgeon creates incisions along the upper and lower eyelids according to the natural lines and folds. For upper eyelid surgery, incisions are made along the creases; for lower eyelid surgery, incisions are created just beneath the lash line. Next, the surgeon separates the skin from underlying fat and muscle. Some of the underlying fat is removed and excess skin and muscle tissue are trimmed. Finally, the incisions are closed with very fine sutures to minimize the appearance of scarring. In some cases, lower eyelid surgery can be performed on the inside of the eyelid so that there is no visible scarring. Our surgeons will determine if you are a candidate for transconjunctival cosmetic eye surgery during the initial consultation.

Eyelid surgery is performed under general anesthesia and, depending on the extent of the procedure, can take from one to three hours to complete. Eyelid surgery can be combined with additional procedures at our Bakersfield practice, including a brow lift, rhinoplasty, BOTOX® injections, Restylane and/or Perlane® injections, chemical peels, and more. Cosmetic Eye Surgery Recovery and Results

Patients who have undergone cosmetic eye surgery are generally pleased with their new youthful and more alert appearance, which will last for years. However, it generally takes a few weeks for the full results to become apparent.

Immediately after eyelid surgery, the area around the eyes may be sore, bruised, and swollen; however, prescribed medication can ease any pain or discomfort. Other symptoms patients may experience include vision changes, light sensitivity, and excessive tearing or dryness of the eyes. Patients will be instructed to keep their head elevated for several days and use eye drops when necessary.

Stitches can be removed a few days after the eyelid surgery procedure, which will eliminate some of the bruising and swelling around the eyes. Patients generally feel much better after this time. Although it will be safe to read and watch television, patients who wear contact lenses should refrain from using them for two weeks following cosmetic eye surgery. Patients will be able to go back to work and resume other normal activities approximately ten days after surgery. Scars may still be pink and very visible, but will fade significantly over time. Following these and all other instructions given by our surgeons will ensure that patients receive the most successful results.
