Dr. Walsh is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. She believes that each patient deserves an individualized approach when it comes to deciding which procedure is best for him or her. This is true for both cosmetic and reconstructive patients. The goal is to balance the patient's desires with his or her overall health needs.
Education and Training
Dr. Walsh is originally from Western New York. She obtained her bachelor's degree in biology from Ithaca College and then went on to medical school at New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury, NY. She relocated to Arizona where she completed an internship at Mesa General Hospital. She then completed her general surgery residency at Maricopa Integrated Health Systems. Dr. Walsh was selected to the fellowship program at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN where she received her formal education in plastic and reconstructive surgery.
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
After completing her fellowship in plastic and reconstructive surgery, the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Mayo Clinic then chose her to become a Mayo Foundation Scholar. This included further fellowship training in Microsurgical Breast Reconstruction at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, MD, and focused on DIEP (deep inferior epigastric perforator) flaps and other breast reconstructive and cosmetic procedures. Dr. Walsh then gained an international perspective on all aspects of plastic surgery with a continuation of the fellowship in Salzburg, Austria and the renowned McIndoe Clinic in England. After her fellowship Dr. Walsh was on staff at Mayo Clinic Rochester for four years. While there she integrated her extensive training to perform several hundred breast reconstructions, in addition to many other cosmetic and reconstructive procedures. She worked closely with the oncologic surgeons in breast, orthopaedic, colorectal, gynecologic, hepatobiliary/ transplant, and urologic surgery to provide state of the art multidisciplinary care to patients at Mayo Clinic.
